Diamond Pet Food Recall!
Note: Flint River Ranch food has not been recalled.
On December 21, 2005, Diamond Pet Food has issued a massive recall of over 15 different dog and cat food varieties. The Food and Drug Administration says contaminated dog food that was sold in 23 states. Diamond has announced that over 75 dogs have been killed, and numerous others hospitalized.
The corn grain was found to contain a toxic mold called Aflatoxin - a naturally occurring chemical that comes from a fungus sometimes found on corn and other crops. This mold may form when the storage conditions of the grains become humid after experiencing high heat and drought.
All animals (including people), birds and fish are susceptible to aflatoxins. Dogs are exposed to aflatoxins after ingesting aflatoxin contaminated food. Sensitivity to aflatoxins in the dog depends on individual susceptibility, age, pregnancy status, and nutritional status.

A Note Regarding Flint River Ranch
Surely, you are wondering if something like this could happen to Flint River Ranch?
The concern over toxins is the reason Flint River Ranch purchases its grains from major human food providers and not directly from small, independent farms. Food/ingredient suppliers test and re-test the grains, and we believe your pets are worth the extra time and cost to ensure the safety of all Flint River Ranch ingredients.
